Grand Palace, Bangkok, Thailand

The Grand Palace was one of our first visits while in Bangkok and one of the most exhausting ones too!

We spent hours walking through the whole complex of buildings, trying to follow the audioguide and avoiding the hundreds or thousands of people around us!

It was great to discover all these remains of the ancient Thai culture, full of details and colors and history of the Kingdom of Siam.

However, I think the most surprising part of the visit was the huge model of the Angkor Wat temple on a small scale. The perfect prelude of what we were about to see a few days after ๐Ÿฅฐ

#Funfact Don't you ever think about wearing jeans at Noon in Bangkok! It's too hot! ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ˜…

Meet Thotsakan, one of the demon guardians at the Emerald Buddha Temple (Wat Phra Kaew). Along with Sahatsadecha, they protect the main entrance of the temple. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €

These beautiful and impressive statues are real Yaksha (giants)! You will also find two identical ones at the Eastern entrance of the Wat Arun temple (another amazing place to visit!).โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €

#Funfact Do you see the whole pack of tourists entering the temple? We won't lie if we say that they were at least a hundred people and ALL from the same excursion! What a crazy day! โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €

Foodie time! Thai Fish Curry

If you ask us what we miss the most from Asia, we could lie and say that we miss the lovely people; the amazing beaches, or inspiring places in the middle of nowhere. But as food lovers, what we miss the most is definitely THE FOOD.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €

During 3 weeks, we had the chance to try the most delicious specialties, and we discovered what "Thai food" really means. We can't wait to taste it again! โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €

Fun fact: we didn't know what spicy meant until we tasted this curry! However, it was delicious!โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €

Grand Palace, Bangkok

The Grand Palace is an immense complex of buildings in the heart of Bangkok. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €

As one of the most touristic places in the city, you will find inside plenty of important buildings such as the Royal Palace or the Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of Emerald Budhha) โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €

This is definitely a must-do when visiting Bangkok. We recommend starting your visit early in the morning, as the complex gets extremely crowded around Noon. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €

We realized that too late after hundreds of tourists arrived at the same time to take pictures everywhere!

Wat Phra Kaew

Speaking of Buddhism, do you know which kind of creature is this?

They are commonly known as "yakshas", benevolent giants meant to protect the entrance of the Buddhist temples.

They are very important in Thai temple art and architecture as they are considered guardian deities.

You can see plenty of them all around the Royal Palace, protecting the most sacred places, like the Royal Pantheon of the Emerald Buddha Temple.

With bright and colorful details, these statues were so impressive! Especially when you think that they were built in the 18th century!

All the Thai-styled houses must have one "Spirit house" inside.

These tiny and cute houses are used in the Buddhist culture to protect your home from non-invited spirits.

They are meant to provide a shelter for spirits that could cause problems for the people, if not appeased. The shrines often include images or carved statues of people and animals.

People often left offerings like food or flowers to gather these spirits and protect their houses from anything bad that could happen.

You can find them almost everywhere in Thailand, in public and private buildings. Beware of bad spirits!
